My Top-10 Favorite TV Shows Of All-Time, #1 Thru #5
By Bloggaman | May 23, 2008
1. The Andy Griffith Show
If I look at all the shows on this list, The Andy Griffith Show has to be at the top. What is funny is that I wasn’t even born when this show came out yet I love it anyway. Barney Fife is a character people know to this day. Ron Howard shows how you go be in show business and not end up a messed up kid. Andy Griffith was great in this show but it was Don Knotts as Fife that made the show great.
2. M*A*S*H
I don’t watch this show as much as I used to but I still love it. I remember the very first time I watched M*A*S*H and I never quit watching after that. Alan Alda, Wayne Rogers and McLean Stevenson made the show great but if not for Larry Linville as Frank Burns, the show would have been lacking something.
Through the years people left and were replaced. Wayne Rogers and McLean Stevenson after Season Three and then Larry Linville left after Season Five. After that the show was still great but just lacked what Frank Burns brought to the show. Charles Winchester was not a top flight surgeon, he was intelligent and he had common sense, all things Frank was lacking. The best episodes were in the first five seasons but they are all fun to watch.
3. Cheers
Another classic TV series. I again loved the earlier episodes with the regular cast. Sam, Coach, Diane, Norm, Cliff and Carla. The show had great writing as was usually non-stop funny. Frasier came to the show and actually made the show better. When Diane left and was replaced by Rebecca Howe, I though the show took a step down. She was too whiney and was almost annoying on the show. This series was good for a long time but is one of the best of all times.
4. Seinfeld
Many people might have Seinfeld listed #1 but I have to keep it at #4 for now. Seinfeld is a little newer and hasn’t had to endure the test of time yet. The episodes were awesome and always funny. The show about nothing always made you laugh because of the great writing and the great cast.
Although the show had Jerry Seinfeld as the main character, it was the entire cast that made the show work. George was crazy, Kramer was an enigma, and Elaine was a mystery. Together they made one of the best shows on recent TV. If you haven’t seen an episode of Seinfeld, shame on you, it isn’t because you can’t find it. The show is in syndication EVERYWHERE! Check your local TV listings.
5. West Wing
This is a show that brought goosebumps to me everytime I watched it. The writing was so well done and it was directed in a way that really got you involved. You really understood the characters from the very beginning. You knew their faults but understood how well they did their jobs. This was the best show I have ever seen that focused on the White House. There haven’t been many so it isn’t saying much but this show was entertaining while teaching you something about politics at the same time. I was sad to see it end a nice run.
