MLB Predictions - American League
By Bloggaman | March 25, 2008
Hello again baseball fans. Yesterday I gave you my predictions for the National League so today it is time for my insight into how I think the America League season will play out. The AL’s Boston Red Sox are the current World Champions and there are a number of teams on the AL side that could do some major damage. The AL and MLB seasons begin today with the Red Sox/A’s two-game series in Japan. Daisuke Matsuzaka makes the start today in his return to Japan. He will face Joe Blanton when the two teams meet. The new season is here so on to my predictions.
AL East
- Red Sox
- Blue Jays
- Yankees
- Devil Rays
- Orioles
The Red Sox are still the class on the AL East with their solid offense as well as a top notch pitching staff. I am going with the Jays to take 2nd place because they have improved and their pitching is better than the Yankees. The Yankees have an All-Star team on offense but they are very iffy with the pitching staff. The D-Rays get the pick for 4th because of the rebuilding effort underway with Baltimore.
AL Central
- Tigers
- Indians
- White Sox
- Twins
- Royals
This is going to be a strong division with the Tigers and Indians both fighting for the top spot. I am going with the Tigers over the Indians, but just barely. Many think the Tigers bullpen is a weak spot and although it may look that way I think they will still take the division. I see the Tigers and Indians being the two best teams in the AL. The White Sox should be better but that only means they are good enough for third. They are nowhere near the Tigers or Indians. The Twins gave up Santana but still have a solid young team. The Twins will beat out the Royals because they are still rebuilding and won’t get out of the basement this year.
NL West
- Angels
- Mariners
- Rangers
- A’s
The Angels should again be the class on the NL West but watch out for the Mariners. The Angels added Torii Hunter in center and that should make them better. They were already solid so this makes them harder to catch. If any team can it is the Mariners. They are putting things together and added Erik Bedard to top their staff. With arguably the top closer in the majors any lead going into the 9th will be hard to overcome. The Rangers should have enough for 3rd but they will be fighting it out with the A’s and whichever team falters will take the cellar. The A’s traded away Dan Haren and although they still have good pitching they have a lot of questions on offense.
AL Playoff Teams
Red Sox, Tigers, Angels, Indians (Wild Card)
AL Awards
MVP - Alex Rodriguez, Yankees
CY Young - Justin Verlander, Tigers
Rookie of the Year - Adam Jones, Orioles
Going into this season it looks like the AL will be the favorites to win the World Series again. The Red Sox are still very good, the Tigers are greatly improved, the Indians are looking as tough as ever and the Angels and Mariners figure to be in the hunt as well. The baseball season is here. We now have six months of great baseball ahead of us. Enjoy!
