    Democratic Race All But Over

    By Bloggaman | May 12, 2008

I know it is over. Barack Obama knows it’s over. Hillary Clinton likely knows it is over. Do you know it is over?

Ever since the Indiana and North Carolina primaries the news shows have been talking about how the race is over and it is time for the Democrats to unite behind Obama. The Democratic leadership has told Hillary Clinton to back off the rhetoric if she plans to continue. She has said very little since Tuesday. I think she now sees the end is close and has to find a way to exit in a good way.

If she doesn’t, she should soon. Obama has had the momentum and now has overtaken Clinton in the superdelegate lead. This was Clinton’s only hope and that is going away quickly. According to a story on Bloomberg.com, Obama now has 277 superdelegates to 274.5 for Clinton. At one time Clinton had a lead of over 100 in superdelegates. This shows how things really have turned for the worse for Clinton.

The talk is beginning on how Senator Clinton can find herself in the VP spot but that may not be as clear cut as some think. For one, Hillary Clinton and Bill have been very hard on Obama throughout the race. Obama ClintonWill Obama want the Clinton team in the VP slot? Another point is that Clinton may not be the best person to help with electoral math.

If Obama’s biggest flaw is his lack of foreign policy experience maybe they take someone that can counter that flaw. If balance is needed for the ticket and Hillary isn’t an option maybe another woman is? Obama has struggled with the Hispanic vote so maybe someone that can help him with that vote. There are so many options and people that make sense. With that being said I am going to mention some that I have heard of lately.

Now that is just a short list. There are many others that it could be and I have seen others mentioned but this list is those that I see mentioned the most and why they help Obama. The Obama camp hasn’t said anything yet. For one, the race isn’t over so why would they. It could hurt him.

We likely won’t have an answer to the VP choice for a number of weeks. When the decision is made I hope it is a smart one. I want Obama as the next President of the United States and for that to happen he needs to make a smart VP choice. I could see any of those listed above in the VP slot but what is Obama thinking? Only those closest to him know for sure so we are left waiting for an answer. I can’t wait for things to be a little clearer.
