    Democratic Process Continues

    By Bloggaman | June 2, 2008

Over the weekend there was more news about the fight for the Democratic nomination. There hasn’t been a day over the last few months where I don’t remember seeing something about the Democratic Presidential nomination process so this is nothing new.

The new news talks about Clinton’s win in Puerto Rico and the decision to award the delegates from Michigan and Florida, but give them only half a vote each, to penalize them for moving up their primaries earlier than the party had approved.

Clinton received 105 delegates from Florida and 69 from Michigan. With a half vote each that meant 52.5 delegates from Florida and 34.5 from Michigan for a total of 87 votes. Obama received 67 from Florida and 59 from Michigan. With the half vote restriction that means 33.5 from Florida and 29.5 from Michigan for a total of 63 votes. That means with Florida and Michigan in the mix, Obama still holds a sizable lead.

Clinton is again claiming she leads in the popular vote with Michigan and Florida counted. This may be true but Barack Obama wasn’t even on the ballot in Michigan and no one campaigned in Florida. What a bad year for Michigan and Florida to try and make a statement. After the 2000 election you would think Florida would want to stay out of the national spotlight. Beyond that, I don’t think anything has changed and when you consider that Clinton is still refusing to go away, nothing really has changed.

Obama has continued to focus on McCain while not trying to make it look like Clinton is irrelevant. She is to a point where she needs to get behind Barack Obama. She may not like the idea but she really can’t win so she needs to focus now on beating McCain.

Folks, it is only June and I think most people are tired of hearing about Clinton and Obama. Just think, only about five more months before this whole process is over until 2012. Many of us could be completely insane by November if things continue on as they have been. Lets just hope things get better before they get worse. I am not holding my breath but I wouldn’t have guessed Obama would be nearing the Democratic nomination but he is. I think that is good reason to hope for good things over the next five months. No matter what happens, the time George W. Bush has left in the White House is dwindling each day. That is something to be happy about.
