Clinton And Obama Duel In Two Big States Today
By Bloggaman | May 6, 2008
By the end of the day we could have a few different outcomes but although I still think the race is over. The first option is that Barack Obama wins North Carolina big and narrowly wins Indiana and ends the Democratic race.
A second option is Obama wins North Carolina big but loses narrowly to Indiana. Although the race is
likely still over it could be enough to keep Hillary Clinton in the race.
A third option is that Clinton wins both Indiana and North Carolina and keeps herself going in the race. If she were to win both, neither would likely be by a big enough margin to cut into his lead. What it could do is get some people to question the electability of Obama over McCain. I think this is the unlikeliest of the three options and my hope is that we see option number one so we can move on to fight John McCain.
There have also been a number of things affecting the race lately and they will obviously affect both Indiana and North Carolina voters.
- For Obama, Jeremiah Wright has continued to be a thorn is Obama’s side. Obama has worked to distance himself but Wright has continued to be vocal which is making it harder to get past his remarks.
- Another thing affecting Obama were his remarks from a couple weeks ago referring to the people that are struggling to make it and the fact that they tend to “cling to religion and guns”. That was a remark that hurt him in Pennsylvania and it continues to hurt him today. It could cost him Indiana and a big win in North Carolina. There is always a chance he could lose North Carolina but I think he is safe there.
- Hillary Clinton has been pushing the Federal Gas Tax holiday because she feels Americans need a break from high gas price. She is right there, we sure could but others don’t think it will work. Barack Obama is one of those people and he feels if we do that it will hurt us more than it helps. Economists also came out against Clinton saying it is a bad idea
and will actually make things worse in the long run and really won’t save us money. They also say that the removal of the gas tax will actually help the oil companies. I personally don’t want to help them, especially if it won’t help us.
No matter how you look at it, today is a huge day. I don’t imagine the voters or Indiana or North Carolina had any idea the role they would play in this years election. Michigan and Florida thought they needed to increase their exposure and ended up losing out big this year. Had they not done a thing it would have been big years for them as well.
