    Big Things Happening

    By Bloggaman | March 29, 2008

Exciting things are happening this week which means it is a great week for many. If you are a sports fan it is a fantastic week. Major League Baseball officially starts the season tonight. After the two games played by Boston and Oakland in Japan we have been without baseball since. That is why I call this the real start to the season. It starts and doesn’t stop after two games.

The Atlanta Braves visit the Washington Nationals tonight to restart the baseball season. The Boston Red Sox and Oakland A’s met earlier in the week for a 2-game series that was played in Japan. No games have been played since then so this officially gets things going for the season. There are high expectations for many teams while many others are starting rebuilding efforts. The Cubs also start the anniversary season of their last World Series title. Many favor the Cubs to win the NL Central and I even saw one prediction in ESPN Magazine that had them losing the World Series to Cleveland. It is way to early to tell and it is a long way to go. We have six months of baseball ahead of us so put your seat belts on and enjoy the ride.

March Madness continues with the last two games tonight that will get us down to the Final Four. The first two entrants into the Final Four punched their tickets last night. UCLA and North Carolina won their Elite Eight games and now sit within two games of the National Championship.

Tonight there are two other great games as #1 Memphis faces #2 Texas. In the other game, #1 Kansas faces the tournament surprise #10 Davidson. Davidson has beaten the #2 seed Georgetown and then beat #3 seed Wisconsin. If they beat Kansas I am not sure it would be considered a surprise. I think Davidson was underestimated and they are trying to show people that the 22 straight wins coming into the tournament was no fluke. They now sit at 25 straight wins and handily beat a very good Wisconsin team. Watch out Kansas, I think every team thus far has underestimated these guys. I think you think realize you can’t do that.

I had UCLA and UNC facing each other in the championship games. I had Wisconsin losing to UNC so I would love to see Davidson beat Kansas. I also have Memphis in the Final Four but they face a tough Texas team. There have some great games thus far in the tournament and there will be at least three more chances to see some really good games.
