AL Baseball Predictions - Checking At 1/3rd Mark
By Bloggaman | June 6, 2008
This is a follow up to the article yesterday when I took a look at the predictions for the NL teams. Below is a look at the predictions from before the season and their current records. I also included any changes I see at this point in the season. I made some errors if the season ended now, we will see if things change.
AL East - Prediction
- Red Sox
- Blue Jays
- Yankees
- Devil Rays
- Orioles
AL East - Actual (June 4)
- Red Sox
- Devil Rays
- Blue Jays
- Orioles
- Yankees
The Devil Rays so close to 1st Place at this point in the year is not only a surprise but was thought of as nearly impossible at the beginning of the season. They have put together good young pitching and solid young hitters to impress me. The Red Sox are still the favorite to win the division but the Devil Rays should be close all season.
AL Central - Prediction
- Tigers
- Indians
- White Sox
- Twins
- Royals
AL Central - Actual (June 4)
- White Sox
- Twins
- Indians
- Tigers
- Royals
Other than the Royals in last I have been way off on this division. The Tigers have come out with nothing and have the record to prove it. The Indians haven’t played well either but I think they will likely turn it around and finish on top. The Tigers need a huge turnaround in their play if they are expected to make a run at the division. They have been awful thus far.
NL West - Prediction
- Angels
- Mariners
- Rangers
- A’s
NL West - Actual (June 4)
- Angels
- A’s
- Rangers
- Mariners
The Angels are where I thought they would be but the A’s have been a surprise. Billy Beane, the A’s GM, continues to trade away top players while continuing to produce a competitive team on the field. The Mariners have to be a disappointment after trading for Bedard in the preseason.
AL Playoff Teams
Red Sox, Tigers, Angels, Indians (Wild Card) (No on the Tigers at this point. Indians for AL Central and the Devil Rays as the Wild Card)
AL Awards
MVP - Alex Rodriguez, Yankees (Josh Hamilton is the MVP so far)
CY Young - Justin Verlander, Tigers (Daisuke Matsuzaka through the first 1/3rd)
Rookie of the Year - Adam Jones, Orioles (Evan Longoria or Jacoby Ellsbury likely now)
Biggest Surprise - Devil Rays (without question)
Biggest Disappointment - Detroit Tigers (again, without question)
