    A Baseball Fans Dream - 30 Parks In 30 Days - Part 1

    By Bloggaman | June 10, 2008

Some of you may not know it but I love baseball. I love to watch baseball, I love to play baseball and I love to coach baseball. I am nowhere near retirement age but one of the dreams I have is to one day travel around to every baseball park and watch a game.

I realize I don’t need to be retired to do it but it would make things easier. I am currently an IT Manager and a Realtor so my days are pretty full already. We do get to ballparks near where we live which means trips to Wrigley Field in Chicago, the new Busch Stadium in St. Louis and the Metrodome in Minneapolis. It is fun to see new parks and it would be even more fun to do all in one year.

Besides the three parks listed above I can also say that I have been to US Cellular Field (White Sox) in Chicago, Comiskey Park (Old White Sox park), old Busch Stadium (Cardinals)in St. Louis, Miller Park (Brewers) in Milwaukee and Edison Field in Anaheim (Angels). One place I would love to go in Yankee Stadium, before it is torn down. I doubt that will happen but I might figure out a way to do it before the last game is played there.

Now back to my dream. If you wanted to take it even further you could try to do 30 different parks in 30 days. That would be a major undertaking and would take some serious logistical wizardry, not to mention a ton of money.

First I would need to plot every stadium on a map to get a visual representation of how big the task would be. It would be helped by cities with multiple baseball teams. New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, etc.

I mapped the best route I could see and if you like driving you may not once you are done with this trip. Did I mention you had to drive the whole way? You could fly but that would be even more expensive and why would you want to? Drive and see the United States. All 9,324 miles of it and no that isn’t a typo. You could either go see 30 ballparks in 30 days or travel 4/10th’s the distance around the earth at the equator. I am for the ballparks myself but you take what works best for you.

I have a screenshot of the map with the 30 points plotted on it. I had a cheat a little because I couldn’t get it to do every city so I used San Francisco for both it and Oakland, same for Los Angeles and Anaheim and I has to use Washington DC for it and Baltimore. It doesn’t change the mileage that much but I wanted to clarify that.

    30 Parks in 30 Days

Part 2 coming Thursday - I will actually see if I can buy tickets in a way that allows me to hit each city in succession without straying from my target route. This ought to be fun.
